Episteme adulatrix Kollar, 1884 and E. nigripennis Butler, 1875 (a Sri Lanka species) do not have any any orange basally on the HW. The only orange on the HW is two orange spots towards the tornus which in the case of nigripennis is very much reduced. In E. nigripennis the white submarginal markings on both wings are smaller when compared with E. adulatrix.
Episteme maculatrix Westwood, 1841, large white discal spots are smaller and usually separate. HW 2/3 basally orange (unlike E. adulatrix) with a large irregular dark patch from dorsum.
Episteme lectrix Linnaeus 1764 (A Chinese species) FW similiar to adulatrix, HW similiar to maculatrix.
