Areas (Melanareas) imperialis (Kollar, [1844]), India (NW Himalayas, Sikkim, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh).

Areas galactina orientalis Walker, 1855 Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh and eastwards. Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Note ssp. khasiana does not occur in the Khasi hills, but instead occurs in West Yunnan, West Sichuan and possibly SE Tibet and Northern Myanmar. (Dubatolov et al, 2009)
Outside India this species is distributed in mountainous areas of the oriental region including central China, the Philippines and Indonesia (Dubatolov et al, 2009).
